2009 Events

Student Presentation Day

In September, presentations were given by Masters Students who successfully gained research project placements on the EMpower Scheme in 2009. The Presentation Day was open to all to attend and provided an ideal networking opportunity for academia and the Nuclear Industry. It also showcased the skills that our Environmental and Earth Science students have to offer in a wide range of subject areas which are highly relevant to the current and future needs of the Nuclear Industry. The abstract volume from the day can be downloaded here.

EMpower Lecture Programme 2009

During the Autumn term, a very successful series of cross disciplinary lectures were held at Universities around the country. The lectures were given by experts from the Nuclear Sector and included topics such as New Build, Decommissioning and Waste Management and the Regulators Viewpoint. The lectures were hosted by the Universities of Leeds, Edinburgh, Lancaster and Cardiff, University of East Anglia and Imperial College, London. The Lecture Series information Booklet can be downloaded here (5.4 Mb).

What is EMpower?

The EMpower scheme aims to give Environmental, Earth and other Science MSc students, who would not necessarily consider employment in the industry, exposure to the Nuclear Sector through research project placements and other activities such as lecture days, visits and networking opportunities. It aims to bring together students, academics and the Nuclear Industry through its activities and a high-profile Lecture Day held in September each year.
